About Our Future Northern Rivers

Born out of the devastating 2017 flood, the Lismore Citizens Flood Review Group united long-term locals, business leaders, and experts in emergency management to drive recovery and resilience in the Northern Rivers of NSW.

What began as a response to flood disaster has grown into a broader regional movement. With the Northern Rivers facing a relentless cycle of floods, droughts, bushfires, a pandemic, and systemic policy failures, the group evolved into Our Future Northern Rivers — a community-led initiative focused on real-world solutions and long-term planning.

Our mission is clear: identify the challenges, seize the opportunities, and forge a path to lasting recovery.

Working alongside national thought leaders and leveraging cutting-edge science and technology, OFNR is committed to the delivery of shovel-ready projects and developing a Regional Masterplan. Our work spans social, environmental, economic, and built domains to lift the region from vulnerability to resilience.

From submissions to royal commissions and government inquiries, to community campaigns and media advocacy — we are outcome-driven, grounded in local knowledge and lived experience, and guided by best practice to build a better future for the Northern Rivers.
